Welcome! I have never fancied myself an artist, in fact, the opposite. But, as a productive things to do during pandemic to help keep my mind occupied I began to dabble with crafts which then progressed to painting.
The "3D Topo Rivers" were made first, highlighting several of my favorite river gorges that I have gotten to experience. There was a lot of learning that went into these as I had never used a small jig saw before, nor glued wood crafts together, nor picked out a stain for wood, let alone Baltic Birch which it turns out is very hard to stain well. You can see that I also had lessons learned on the application of the stain I choose as it is blotchy at times. I would like to think if I did these over again I would be able to do them better!
I then used the left over wood to make my "States" series, highlighting the two states I have called home. I had a few more boards left over, so I decided to start the National Parks series, but quickly figured out the 12x12 - Wood size was too large and reduced the designs to 8x8. While working on these, I got an ad for Name Boards and thought, well I could make that for Aster too!
While finishing the last of the National Parks, I began to realize I was enjoying painting the backgrounds more than making the wood designs and just thought, "maybe I will try to learn to paint." I had always wanted to be able to paint, but as I am a terrible artist I thought it was a forgone skill. As you see, several of the early paintings showed my noviceness, but through tutorials and practice I am slowly getting better!
So anyways, I just thought I would share these all here, in case anyone wanted to see.
